Although it’s from last Friday’s Guardian, this cartoon from Steve Bell is still worth publishing here. Of course, it evokes Hugo Chavez’ recent comments at the Copenhagen climate change summit: ‘If the climate were a bank, it would have been saved by now.’
What does the climate and the people of Haiti have in common? They’re not very high up on global capital’s list of priorities. Now almost a week after the horrific ordeal began, the relief programme that Haiti so badly needs is still not in force as it should be. This is a damning indictment of the United States, who barged others aside to lead the ‘mission’ in order to preserve their neo-liberal stranglehold on the small country.
